Officially begun on December 12th, 2000, silkworth.net is now in its twenty-fifth year and is one of the largest sites of its type in the world — a repository, an archive, you might say, of Alcoholics Anonymous history and related information.
There is still so much more work to be done on silkworth.net that I expect to be working on it for the rest of my life. Alcoholics Anonymous saved my life from certain death. There are thousands of pages of information here and the site will continue to grow. The archive looks much as it did, but a good deal has changed underneath it. We have rebuilt how the pages are put together, removed software the site no longer needed, and simplified the code behind every article.
Why bother, when nothing looks different? Because this archive needs to outlast all of us. Every piece of complexity we can take away is one less thing to break in ten years’ time, and one less reason for the site to go quiet.
